Surf Spots Nearby

Located on South Pagai Island at the southern tip of the Mentawai Islands, our surf camp offers an escape to a less-developed, quieter part of the region, far from the crowds of the northern islands. With multiple surf breaks nearby, there are waves for surfers of all levels, from beginners to experienced riders.

Thunders

Thunders is one of the most reliable waves on earth. It picks up almost all the swell the ocean has to offer on any given day. It also has a number of take-off spots which help to spread the crowd out. There are barrels on offer almost the whole way through the tidal range. However as the swell gets bigger (5ft+) the wave tends to become more fat and shouldery.

RAG’s RIGHT

Rags right is a fast barreling right hand reef break, it freight trains down 150 - 200 meters worth of coral with heart breaking perfection. On certain swell directions she can slow down towards the end and offer a more user friendly experience. However typically its a no holds barred pull in and hold on style affair. Once its over 3ft its no for the feint of heart. at 6ft+ its as good as anywhere in the world.

RAG’s LEFT

On the opposite side of the island from Rags Right, Rags Left resides. This wave is an anomaly, on the right day it can dish up barrels longer and heavier then almost anywhere else in the Mentawai. Its LONG its FAST and it can often drop an ugly section on your head. When she works she is truly a sight to behold. 300+ meter barrels are a genuine possibility out here. Be prepared to pay to play though the inside is a maze of plate and fire coral.

Thunder BOX

Thunderbox has gained much notoriety over the past few years. It’s relatively short for a wave in the Mentawai, what it lacks in length it makes up for in heaviness and the tube vision quality. She picks up loads of swell and truely doesn’t need much more then a low tide and the correct wind direction in order to pump. There are often empty windows to be had out here as she can turn on and turn off at a moments notice owing to local weather fluctuations.

Macaronis

Macaronis, It’s as though the reef was drawn by Huey with a protractor. The flawless shape of this wave is a thing to behold. It allows for a style of surfing so deliciously user friendly that when you are on the wave it is almost hard to believe. Thats the good, now the bad. Thanks to its fame and perfection it is never uncrowded. expect a minimum of 20 people in the lineup even if its onshore and tiny. The boats love going there and there are multiple accommodation options near by.

It should also be noted that recent global events have led to a highly dynamic fuel pricing/availability situation in the Mentawai. We are only able to offer trips to Macaroni’s and Greenbush with an additional surcharge payable per-person.

Green BUSH

I mean it’s Greenbush i am not going to waste our time describing her. If you want to have a crack you already know what she looks like. Although if you need a refresher go watch our clip Eternal to see her in all her glory. If you want to try your luck. We are more then happy to take you, so long as conditions permit. She doesn’t play nice with every swell. A few degrees of direction mean the difference between a ride-able wave and a horror closeout.
